Dear sir

Sussex Friends of Israel Congratulate Southern Water

Southern Water should be roundly congratulated for its unprejudiced commercial decision to source the technologically advanced Arad Technologies water meters from Israel for its universal metering programme, safeguarding water supplies in Lewes and across Sussex into the future.

The new meters not only help Sussex residents save water, but also allow customers to take greater control of their water bills and identify leaks. The meters being installed in Lewes provide the best available technology and help protect our environment at the same time.

A small group of residents want to boycott the meter installations as part of a wider campaign against Israel. They will fail. Southern Water has made its position clear. The company has no political opinion or comment to make; its decision was made for sound commercial reasons. They will continue to install the Arad meters because they offer the best available technology and the greatest environmental benefits for their customers.

Southern Water’s ongoing multi-million pound contract with Arad Technologies is an important contribution to bilateral trade between the UK and Israel and, according to HMRC’s UKTradeinfo website, has contributed to trade imports in excess of £670m in the last three months alone, thus supporting thousands of jobs. Well done Southern Water.

Yours faithfully

Neil Duncanson
